Announcements
On March 4, 2010, the Allen Institute for Brain Science released the latest updates to the Allen Brain Atlas
resources. These include new data and significant feature enhancements for the Allen Developing Mouse Brain Atlas,
as well as additions to other resources. Highlights include:
- The Allen Developing Mouse Brain Atlas now includes ISH data for approximately 2,000 genes and spans 7
developmental stages. New search features include NeuroBlast, Temporal Search, and AGEA. Other enhancements
include gene expression summary heat maps for each gene, ontology browser refinement with image syncing to
the Reference Atlas images, and the Brain Explorer 3D viewer.
- The NIH Blueprint Non-Human Primate (NHP) Atlas has been updated with new data and tools. In addition to
newly added ISH data, an initial set of microarray data is now available as raw data files for user download.
Search functionality has been enhanced with the first release of the Anatomic Search.
- The Human Cortex Study and the Transgenic Mouse Study include new data.
Looking ahead:
- The Allen Human Brain Atlas is scheduled to launch in May 2010, with an initial data set and basic
search and visualization tools. Subsequent releases will expand the data set and provide more advanced
search and visualization options. A multi-year endeavor, this atlas will be a comprehensive brain- and
genome-wide three-dimensional map of gene expression in the adult human brain.
- We now offer free webinar training on use of our growing list of public resources. Keep an eye on the
Online Training image on the Allen Brain Atlas portal home page at

Our next public release will be in May 2010. This release will focus on the initial launch of the Allen Human
Brain Atlas.
