Allen Developing Mouse Brain Atlas

Building on the foundation of the Allen Mouse Brain Atlas for the adult mouse, the Allen Developing Mouse Brain Atlas provides a framework to explore both spatial and temporal regulation of gene expression, effectively a 4D atlas covering brain development from embryonic through postnatal stages.

As of the March 2010 release, the Atlas includes ISH data for ~2,000 genes and covers seven stages of development. New feature highlights in this release include:

• Anatomic search for genes enriched in up to thirteen regions of the brain across seven developmental time points
• Temporal search for gene expression changes across the developmental stages
• Improved navigation of the legend browser with image linking to the structure of interest
• Display of gene expression summary heat maps for each gene
• NeuroBlast search allowing users to find genes exhibiting similar expression patterns
• Brain Explorer 3D viewer

Future releases will add full search functionalities within the Brain Explorer viewer, as well as a fully documented API for programmatically accessing the data.
